LANGUAGE IN GLOBALIZED AND DIGITALIZED SOCIETY

Abstract

Associative meaning represents the cultural identity and social values of a particular society. Associative meaning arises as a result of a relationship beyond its literal meaning. In Javanese, associative meaning is used as a level of language and unique cultural expression. In this digital era, Javanese is threatened with extinction. The reason is that many Javanese people are more interested in using foreign languages than Javanese. Moreover, the ease of Javanese people accessing digital platforms can cause local languages to be eroded and lost. The short film Tilik is presented as an answer to the problem of the threat of extinction of the Javanese language through the associative meaning contained in the dialogue. In addition, the short film Tilik shows how Javanese has the potential to transform into a communication tool that reaches the global community. This study aims to describe the associative meaning of the short film Tilik by Wahyu Agung Prasetyo from Geoffrey Leech's semantic perspective. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection method employs viewing techniques and note-taking techniques. The data found is in turn analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study concludes that the associative meanings in the short film Tilik by Wahyu Agung Prasetyo include connotative, stylistic, affective, and collocative meanings. There are 25 associative meanings found. The details are 6 connotative meanings, 8 stylistic meanings, 5 affective meanings, 2 reflective meanings, and 4 collocative meanings.
